The One Percent Is Real

President Obama said today that if Congress sends him a bill extending Bush-era tax cuts on the first $250,000 of income for families, he’ll sign it immediately.  The Republicans in Congress refuse.  They say tax cuts for rich people, or tax cuts for no one.  The One Percent is real, America, and those folks don’t care about anyone but themselves.  Republicans just told the President that they represent the One Percent, and will only support legislation that helps the One Percent.  No tax cuts for 99% of Americans–because the Republicans won’t even acknowledge those people.  We have to stop them.  It isn’t enough to vote for Obama in November–Americans who don’t earn $250,000 per year or more have to vote straight-ticket Democrat or these evil people will destroy this nation in the name of greed.  NONE OF THIS IS HYPERBOLE.

  1. Oh, Mr. Sensitive, every time I read one of these reflections/calls to action on this topic, I keep thinking back to old conversations with you when you saw the world quite differently. I still don’t think we are exactly aligned – I also think that Democrats could destroy this nation with greed while pretending they are operating from different values – but we’re way closer than I would have ever guessed we would have been 25 years ago – or even five. It makes me happy.

    • I agree with you about the Democrats. I’d scrap the entire rotten party system if I thought there was a practical way to do so between now and November. As it is, the Republicans are much, much worse than the Democrats.
I also agree that we’re not exactly aligned–and wouldn’t it be boring if we were?
Separately, do you really remember what my politics were 25 years ago? Because I don’t.

  2. I remember that we were on opposite sides of the fence in the 1988 presidential election. Your guy won. Also, I remember that you named your second daughter Reagan.

    • I still like Bush I, and I love President Reagan. Did you know that Reagan will be attending Ronald Wilson Reagan High School in a few years? And I named my dog Wilson–guess why?
