The Second Book War will begin tomorrow, June 4, at or around 10 a.m. depending on Brinky conditions.  I had not set a firm date for the first assault on the draft manuscript, leaving instead a fairly wide window open between May 21 and July 1.  The week of May 21 – May 27 was never realistic, but I refused to take it entirely off the table until the calendar did that for me.  The following week, the one ending today, seemed likely from the start, and 5/28, 6/1 and 6/2 were each given serious play.  All three dates passed without the word being given.  Why tomorrow?

  1. Late last week I had begun considering June 6 for its historical significance, but in the end it seemed disrespectful and I abandoned the idea.  It would have to be before D-Day or after, but not June 6 itself.
  2. I had been piling on the workouts—four days in a row through today instead of the usual two -on, one-off pattern I follow to keep from overworking my dubious left knee—so as to give myself a free day whenever the time came.  Five days feels like too much to ask of the knee.
  3. The girls have school tomorrow, the first of just four more days before summer.  I’d rather they not be here for the first day of revisions.

So it’s tomorrow.  Two days before D-Day makes it B-Day.
