Glob Post #1

Do you know the movie Wet Hot American Summer?  I didn’t think it was that funny, but the part where Paul Rudd talks about his journal that he writes in every day is an important thing to me.  It belongs in the select group of lines from movies, TV shows and comics that I use in conversation all the time in place of something that would actually make sense.  Most of those come from Princess Bride, Galaxy Quest, Ghostbusters, Strange Wilderness, Friends, Star Wars and, of course, the Lord of the Rings movies.  If one of your children is distraught about one of the many tribulations of childhood and adolescence, you could say something along the lines of, “whatever happened, whatever is upsetting you, we’ll talk about it and work through it together,” or something along the lines of, “why does it cry, Smeagol?”  That right there is a no-brainer.  And if someone asks me what I smell, the answer is, always, man-flesh, followed by whatever it is I actually smell, unless I’ve lost interest by then.  By which I mean, they’ve picked up our trail!  Anyway, I don’t like Wet Hot Actors From The State, so it’s strange that Paul Rudd’s gurnul would make it into my repertoire.  Although I do love Paul Rudd, because of Clueless.  Because look at Lawrence’s head, alright?  It’s the bomb.  Why does Paul Rudd matter?  Well, WordPress just told me this is my 974th blog post, and I just hate that.  Blog.  I hate that word.  How do you not hate that word?  It’s not a word, first of all.  If this was 20 years ago–and it was, man–and I told you I just finished blogging, would you say, “cool, I’ll read your post later,” or would you say, “the plunger is in the upstairs bathroom, dude, so don’t be afraid to use it.”  Exactly.  So can I call it a glob?  I don’t know how the word glob manages to sound less like the product of expectoration than blog, but it totally does.  It’s my glob, I glob my thoughts in it every day.  And if someone else had this idea before, no they didn’t.

  1. I like it.
