Operation Lillypad – Day 4

Very uneventful day today, except for WATERFALL!

The water level is solid, the pump is working, and the fish are as happy as it is possible for things with no feelings to be.  I fed them some Cheerios.  The big ones couldn’t believe it, even pre-Cheerios.

There is a slight drip from one of the hose joints, something that does not rise to anything like the level of a leak.  Not even a drip, really, more like a dri.  We tried glue and then plumbers’ putty on it, and we may have another go at it in the morning.  My hands are a disaster, I just about shot my toenail off with the pressure washer, and I have relinquished utterly my control of the Apple Floor Room.  But what about WATERFALL!

I also painted the back door frame, fixed the fence and fixed the siding.  My hands look like the worst thing on earth:

I have created an epidermal cocktail of dirt, paint, concrete, liquid nails, silicon, blood and pain.  It is fantastic.  I am declaring victory over the pond, over the fence, and over my skin.  If my family were here, I might go so far as to say it was a good day.

  1. it looks awesome! Not your hands, but the pond. I’m glad you had an almost good day.

  2. I’ve expected everything to go wrong at many steps in the process. Patching the liner and extending it, using concrete, pushing forward without any experience or expertise. But you know, we knocked this thing out of the park. Assuming that the pond hasn’t collapsed by morning, it will be a serious victory. The fish really could not believe the waterfall.

I blame myself for both the drip and the questionable integrity of the patch. Maybe I should have sacrificed my hands more.

    • You took slimy and I took rough. I thought it necessary for us to specialize, and while it may seem that I got the worst of it right now, you (and Nicole) may reconsider after you turn into the Man-Thing next week.
